Introduction Letter

Humphreys Homeless Coalition
208 W. Main St.
Waverly, TN 37185

February 20, 2020

Dear Pastor, Concerned Citizen and Business Operator,

Not many people notice them. Most of them come and they go...homeless people.  They may have asked your church for help with a place to stay out of the cold, some food and clothes for their children, a job or a ride back home. You'd be surprised at the numbers. Just one of our churches averages 20-25 requests a month, for a place to stay.

Humphreys Homeless Coalition is an organization of local citizens and community leaders who have come together to identify the homeless population in Humphreys County and address their needs through acquiring resources and building partnerships with other agencies in order to find and implement solutions to their problems, with the intentions of improving their quality of life and restoring their dignity.

Currently, the local churches and Helping Hands of Humphreys County are inundated with requests for overnight lodging for people going through crises and are unable to meet that need. Our organization wants to streamline available resources of various agencies so that appropriate referrals can be made, short term emergency shelter provided and have less duplication of services.

Initially, we will have volunteers receiving requests by phone, assessing the needs, making appropriate referrals and linking individuals and families to services. We are in the process of negotiating short term motel fees and other avenues for emergency lodging.

Since we have been granted the status of a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization, we will be applying for grants in the near future, but your help is most needed now, as the winter season is upon us. We do not have funds to help us to house anyone and to help them find solutions for their needs.

You may call 931-622-9135 to ask questions or to get involved. (Please leave a voice mail).  We meet the 3rd Thursday of each month at 1 PM, in the Waverly Police Department Conference room.

Gratefully,

Grant Gillespie
